Thai Heritage Conservation - Sri Satchanalai Historical Park (1993)- Wat Suan Kaew Uthayaan Noi | |
Sri Satchanalai Historical Park: Wat Suan Kaew Uthayaan Noi The temple is located close to the area that has been suggested to be the locale of the palace of Si Satachanalai and that it was perhaps the royal temple like Wat Phra Sri Sanphet in Ayutthaya and the Emerald Buddha Temple (Wat Phra Kaew) in Bangkok. The ancient monuments display the unique style of Sukhothai art, such as the lotus bud-shaped stupa (chedi) and Sukhothai Prasat style chedi. Both of them were developed and combined in Khmer art and Sri Lankan art together. At the Ordination Hall (Ubosot) [also thought by some to be a wihan], there is a sitting Buddha in the Mandapa (Mondop). Only one arm is still present and the Buddha image is made of stucco with a wood core. This may be the last wood-core Buddha image in Sukhothai.
