Prasat Hin Phimai: Main Sanctuary

Hindu-Mahayana Buddhist sanctuary in Nakhon Ratchasima in the amphur Phimai. The construction of this Khmer edifice  in Angkorian style started under King Jayavarman V in the late 10th century and was completed during the rule of King Suriyavarman I in the first half of the 11th century. Hence the completion of this temple happened even before the construction of Angkor Wat. As part of the Khmer Empire Phimai was by then already directly connected to Angkor by road.
