Traditional open pavilion, in Thai called sala, in various colours

An open-sided gazebo-like shelter, hall or pavilion of a generally permanent nature consisting only of pillars and a roof as protection against the sun and rain. It occurs within the precincts of a temple complex, on waysides and in fields. The roofed structure offers an open view of the surrounding area, and may be used for relaxation.
