Samantabhadra (Puxian), Dazu Stone Carvings

Dazu Rock Carving is located in the Dazu District in Chongqing City. Sichuan Province which has the reputation of the “Land of Stone Carving”.  The Dazu rock carving was originally carved in the early Tang Dynasty (649 A.D.) and it was listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage in 1999.

 Stamp featuring Samantabhadra ("Universal Worthy") is a bodhisattva in Mahayana Buddhism associated with practice and meditation. Together with Gautama Buddha and the bodhisattva Manjusri, he forms the Shakyamuni Triad in Buddhism. He is the patron of the Lotus Sutra and, according to the Avatamsaka Sutra, made the ten great vows which are the basis of a bodhisattva. In Chinese Buddhism, Samantabhadra is known as Puxian and is associated with action.
