Phanom Rung Historical Park - Vishnu Anantasayin

Phanom Rung Historical Park

Phanom Rung is probably the most impressive and significant of the Khmer temples that can be found in Buriram province, Thailand. It was constructed in Angkor style during the 10th until the 13th century . It was a Hindu shrine dedicated to Shiva, and symbolizes Mount Kailash, his heavenly dwelling.

One of the most well-known elements of the Phanom Rung temple is a decorative lintel placed above the eastern entrance to the central sanctuary. It depicts a reclining Vishnu or Vishnu Anantasayin, and is as Thap Lang Narai Banthomsin known in Thai.
