Children’s Day
Drawing by 10-yeard old Miss. Natchaliya Suddhiprasit, a student from Amnuaywit School in Samut Prakan, depicting a wai kruh ceremony, held annually on Wan Kruh and in which pupils pay respect to their teachers. On the right are female students in school uniform, seated on the floor and performing a wai gesture, while the girls on the first row are offering gifts to their female teachers, who are seated on chairs. In the back are two Thai national flags; beneath those is a Buddha image in the seated pose of concentration or meditation. The image is covered with an orange cloth, the colour for Thursday in the sih prajam wan-system, and the day on which this ceremony was traditionally held, as well as the day associated to it in the Phra prajam wan system. The Buddha image is flanked by lotus flowers, the common symbol for Enlightenment and typically included in the gifts presented to the teachers.
