Jayavarman VII, posthumous name of Mahaparamasaugata was a king  of the Khmer Empire in present-day Siem Reap, Cambodia. He built the Bayon as a monument to Buddhism. Jayavarman VII is generally considered the most powerful of the Khmer monarchs by historians.
