The Shaolin Temple | |
The Shaolin Temple is situated by the Peak Wuru, northern foot of the Mount Shaoshi, northwest of Dengfeng County, Henan Province. It is a famous ancient Buddhist temple in China. There are many ancient buildings, such as the main gate, Fangzhang Hall, Damo Pavilion and the Forect of Dagobas and cultural relics kept in the temple. It was built originally in the 19th year of Taihe, Northern Wei Dynasty and the birthplace of the Chan sect of Buddhism. Bodhidharma of Northern India practiced Buddhism here and was respectfully called the creator of Chinese Chan sect. In the early Tang Dynasty, the monks of Shaolin Temple helped Li Shimin, the King of Qin to found the Tang Dynasty so that to make Shaolin martial arts well known everywhere.
