David Shillingford Paynter, (5 March 1900 – 7 June 1975), was an internationally renowned Sri Lankan painter. He was a pioneer creator of a Sri Lankan idiom in what was essentially a Western art form. His most celebrated works are his murals at the Trinity College Chapel in Kandy and the Chapel of the Transfiguration, at S. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia. The Sri Lanka Philatelic Bureau commemorated Christmas in 1996 with two stamps featuring the murals from the Trinity Chapel.
Stamp depicting the Paintings of local artists - Justin Daraniyagala
Justin Pieris Deraniyagala (20 July 1903 – 24 May 1967) was a Sri Lankan painter. Deraniyagala was a founder member of the Colombo '43 Group of Sri Lankan artists and along with Lionel Wendt, George Keyt and Harold Peiris.
He spent a few years in London and in Paris studying and working, where he was influenced by the works of Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse and Georges Braque. He returned to Ceylon in 1935, and worked for the British Museum on Ceylon antiquities and was elected Vice President of the Ceylon National Committee of International Association of Art.

Ivan Peries (31 July 1921 – 13 February 1988) was a founder member of the Colombo '43 Group of Sri Lankan artists, and one of its leading painters.  Born near Colombo, he spent more than half his life in self-imposed exile in London and Southend-On-Sea, but his art remained to the end a prolonged meditation on his native Sri Lankan experience. He was a key figure in the origins of contemporary Sri-Lankan art.
Stamp depicting the Paintings of local artists - Solias Mendis
Walimuni Solias Mendis (June 17, 1897 – September 1, 1975) was a renowned Sri Lankan (Sinhala) artist primarily known for his Buddhist temple paintings, accomplished in a neo-classical style.
Once accomplished himself, he began painting murals in Buddhist temples. The Buddhist monks and devotees who saw magnificent style decided to call him to paint in Kelaniya  Vihara. At around the age of 30, he undertook a twenty-year project to complete the Kelaniya Vihara murals. His style was unique, from graceful brush strokes to perspective.
