Daegu - seated statue of Gwanbong Seokjoyeorae
Backed by a cluster of majestic boulders, this benevolent statue of Buddha is a remarkable relic of the Silla Kingdom. Fashioned out of a single piece of granite, the statue has stood the test of time and continues to be a definitive feature the landscape of Gyeongsan with its generous scale. It is believed that the wholehearted wishes of those who pray before this statue are fulfilled, drawing many to the foot of this revered likeness of the benevolent Buddha. The name "Gatbawi" refers the flat stone that is balanced on the statue's head and is a prominent feature of this honored effigy. Rife with tales of miraculous happenings, the origins of this statue can be traced back to the 7th Century.
