Simwon Temple
Simwon Temple in Mt Pongrin, Sangyang-ri, Pakchon County, North Phyongan Province of the DPRK is one of the heritages which show the time-honored history and brilliant culture of the Korean nation. Preserved in the temple are Pogwang Hall and Chongphung and Hyangro (Sanghyang) pavilions. Pogwang Hall is the oldest main building with one-storied gable roof which considerably shows the architectural style of Koryo (918-1392).
The colorfully painted hall has splendidly-decorated ceiling and five lattice doors with lotus, peony, Prunus mume, chrysanthemum and other floral fretworks. The temple serves as a precious cultural heritage significant in studying the architecture of Koryo.
