Stamps depicting the four famous mountains - China : Mt Pu Tuo, Mt Wu Tai, Mt Emei and Mt Jiuhua

Located in the east islands (Zhoushan Archipelago) of Zhejiang Province, Putuoshan Mountain (Mount Putuo, Putuo Mountain) is the abode of Avalokitesvara and one of the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains in Chin.  Putuoshan Mountain fully shows the beauty of both mountain and sea and honored as the Buddhist Kingdom on the Sea and the Sacred Land of the South China Sea. The original religious activity of Mount Puotuo is traced back to Qin Dynasty (BC 221 - 201) when the Taoist immortals practiced alchemy here, and the relic sites can be still found today.

Mount Wutai, also known by its Chinese name Wutaishan and as Mount Qingliang, is a sacred Buddhist site at the headwaters of the Qingshui in Shanxi Province, China. As host to over 53 sacred monasteries, Mount Wutai is home to many of China's most important monasteries and temples. It was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009 and is one of China’s  great Sacred Landscapes.

Mount Emei or Emeishan Mountain, is located in Leshan City, Sichuan Province. It is towering, beautiful, old and mysterious. It is like a huge green screen standing in the southwest of the Chengdu. It is also of great spiritual and cultural importance because of its role in the introduction of Buddhism into China.  In the temple there are five halls: the Gate, the Maitreya Hall, the Mahavira hall, the Seven Buddhist Hall and the Samantabhadra Hall.

Mount Jiuhua, located at Qingyang County, Chizhou City of Anhui Province, is one of the four sacred Buddhist mountains in China.  Mount Jiuhua is dedicated to Ksitigarbha ,  a bodhisattva and protector of beings in hell realms according to Mahayana Buddhist tradition. This holy land is reputed as “Buddhist Heaven for Lotus Flowers”.
