The Wat Ongtu is famous for its carved wooden doors that represent scenes from Thao Khatanam legend. Thao Khatanam was a hero from Vientiane who fought Ngou Xouang, the great serpent that came from the sky to destroy the city of Khouang Thavadi. Later, in other event, he rescued Khamkong from the giant ogre, and married her.
