That Ing Hang
That Ing Hang is a sacred Buddhist stupa located in Ban That village close to Kaysone Phomvihane in Savannakhet Province in Central Laos. It is a pilgrimage site for Buddhists in Lao as it is considered as a burial site for one of Buddha's bones. The temple is registered as a national treasure by the Lao government.
The temple was built by King Marukhanakhone about 450 years ago to commemorate the visit of Buddha to this site. It is believed that Buddha was here to preach a sermon, after which he rested under the Hang tree nearby thus, the temple later acquiring the name That Ing Hang. Every year, a traditional festival is held during November, when people gather for elaborate prayers and celebrations.
