On the Japan Sea coast lies Toyama Prefecture on Honshu Island. The prefecture is the leading industrial prefecture on the Toyama Bay. This is made possible by Kurobe Dam providing cheap electricity. Toyama also contains east Asia's only glaciers outside of Russia.
About 30% of the total land area of the prefecture are dedicated national parks, most notably, the Hakusan National Park and the Noto Peninsula Quasi National Park. Toyama Prefecture hosts one of the most beautiful world heritage sites of Japan, namely Gokayama Historical Village. Toyama is famous for its mountains and a favorite among Japanese hikers.
