Music Instruments of Bhutan | |
Music is an important essence of Bhutanese culture and identity. Traditional musicians have used organic materials to craft and refine a variety of instruments to harmonise with melodies that are drawn from the sights and sound of nature. Among the most popular percussive, string, and wind instruments are the dranyen (lute), chiwang or pewang (fiddle), lim (flute), and yangchen (hammered dulcimer). Lhamo Yangchenma is the Goddess of knowledge and music. In Bhutan, music and dance are an integral part of both religious practice and daily life. Music is often performed during Buddhist rituals and festivals. Yangchenma, the goddess of music and knowledge, stands as a spiritual symbol within this cultural atmosphere. Her veneration unites religion and the arts, making Bhutanese traditional music a source of “sacred inspiration.” |
