Issued to highlight Dunhuang’s Mogao Caves, this stamp features a Bodhisattva statue from the Western Wei period. The central pillar, a distinctive feature of the Mogao Caves and other early Chinese grottoes, was modeled after the stupa in Indian cave temples. It represents one of the earliest forms of Buddhist art introduced into China. |
