Sun Temple, Konark

The Konark Sun Temple in Odisha, built in 1250 CE by King Narasimhadeva I of the Eastern Ganga dynasty, is dedicated to the Sun God. Conceived as a colossal stone chariot with 12 wheels, it is the most renowned of India’s few sun temples. Known to Europeans as the “Black Pagoda” for its dark facade used in navigation, the temple was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984.
