Ninna Temple Sanctuary | |
Ninna-ji Temple, one of Kyoto’s largest UNESCO World Heritage temples, is renowned across Japan for its cherry blossoms. Founded in the 9th century by Emperor Uda—who became its first abbot after abdicating—the temple maintained close ties with the imperial family, as successive abbots were emperors’ sons. Known as the Imperial Palace Omuro, its buildings, including the main hall (KondÅ), reflect imperial architectural styles. |
