An ancient Buddhist monastery dating to the 2nd century BCE, Budugala preserves cave inscriptions, drip-ledged caves, and monastic ruins. Tradition holds that the Sacred Tooth Relic was once hidden here. The site is also famed for its prehistoric rock paintings, including Sri Lanka’s only lion tableau.
